THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES HOSTS A DELEGATION FROM GULF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Reverend Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, has hosted a delegation from Gulf Medical University (GMU), United Arab Emirates at the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research, University of Ghana, Legon.

Speaking at the meeting, the Provost welcomed the delegation led by the Chancellor, Professor Hossam Hamdy to the College of Health Sciences University of Ghana. The Provost praised the GMU for respecting and working within the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions. He also congratulated the GMU on their decision to establish a GMU Ghana Campus in the Country. He assured them of the College’s preparedness to continue to work with them in whatever way possible.

 

On his part, Professor Hossam Hamdy was grateful to the Provost, and the University of Ghana for the warm reception accorded him and his team. Professor Hamdy indicated that it was time the College and GMU took the existing co-operation between the two institutions to the next level. He praised the Provost for his vision for higher education in Ghana and beyond.

Professor Hamdy continued that GMU has the blessing of their President to establish GMU Ghana Campus to help in the training of health professionals for Ghana and beyond. The GMU Ghana Campus will also be undertaking cutting edge research to advance medical education in the Country. He was hopeful that faculty at the University of Ghana will collaborate with their counterparts at GMU to do research.

In his concluding remarks, Professor Hamdy invited the College of Health Sciences and the University of Ghana to collaborate with GMU to organise an International Conference on Medical Education here in Ghana next year.

The visit by the Gulf Medical University delegation was to reciprocate a similar visit by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences to GMU last year. This visit by the delegation was to strengthen the memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions.
