Mr. Prosper Amegashie (Assistant Librarian)

Mr. Prosper Amegashie is the Assistant Librarian at the College of Health Science Library. He heads the Technical Services Unit of the library.

Mr. Amegahie has a Master of Philosophy in Information Studies; Master of Arts in Information Studies (MA); Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies with the Study of Religions (BA-First Class Honours) and a Diploma in Librarianship.

He was first employed as a Junior Library Assistant Grade III in the Balme Library of University of Ghana on 1st October, 1986 after he had completed his National Service at the Library from 1985 to August 1986.

He worked in the Orders and Acquisitions Department of the Balme Library until 1st November 1990 when he was transferred on promotion as Junior Library Assistant Grade II to Population and Social Sciences Library, popularly known as ISSER/RIPS Library. This is a quasi-special library in the University of Ghana Library System which serves primarily the research needs of Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) and Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) and other cognate departments of the University.

Mr. Amegashie was promoted again to the rank of Library Assistant (a Senior Staff position) in 1995 after he had completed a two year Diploma in Librarianship programme from University of Ghana in 1994. He further earned promotions on the Senior Staff platform to Senior Library Assistant in 1999, Principal Library Assistant in 2006 and eventually to Chief Library Assistant in 2013 [Having obtained the necessary professional qualifications and experience in the field of librarianship (i.e. BA Info.Studies with the Study of Religion (First Class Hons)-2003, MA Info. Studies-2007, and later,MPhil Info.Studies in 2014).] He has also acted as the Librarian of ISSER/RIPS Library in the absence of a Substantive Librarian in November 2006 to 2015. On 1st January, 2016 Mr. Amegashie was transferred on promotion to the Cataloguing Department of Balme Library as Assistant Librarian (Professional), a Senior Member status. Within the same year of 2016, he was transferred to the College of Health Science Library where he now heads the Technical Services Unit of the library.

His  vision is for the College of Health Sciences library to become a one-stop health information centre, where faculty, students, medical practitioners, consultants and other health professionals would find relevant ,accurate and timely information they need for their work so as to fulfil the vision of the college, which is to bring good health, comfort and happiness to people.
