The University of Ghana Medical School's Graduate Entry Medical Program (GEMP) class of 2027 continued its remarkable commitment to social responsibility with a recent donation of ten thousand Ghanaian Cedis to the Pediatric Oncology Ward at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. This generous contribution follows earlier donations of six thousand Cedis and medical supplies valued at over eight thousand Cedis made in March and September 2024, respectively.
Made possible through the invaluable support of the Top-Up Pharmacy Group, this latest donation was graciously received by Prof. Catherine Segbefia, Head of the Child Health Department, and Prof. Lorna Awo Renner, Consultant Pediatric Oncologist. This ongoing support reflects the GEMP 2027 class's dedication to making a lasting impact on the lives of young patients even during their own medical studies.
Prof. Lorna Renner expressed her sincere gratitude to the class for their unwavering generosity and consistent support of the ward. Prof. John Ahenkorah, from the Department of Anatomy, who personally understands the challenges faced by families affected by childhood cancer (having had a child successfully treated for Wilms tumor), encouraged the class to continue their efforts and extend their support to the mothers residing at the Sunshine Hostel.
Dr. Buabeng Nyantakyi, Head of Marketing at Top-Up Pharmacy, expressed his satisfaction with the significant impact these donations will have on the lives of young patients and reiterated the company's commitment to supporting this vital cause.
Mr. Martin Banzie, the GEMP 2027 Class President, extended his heartfelt thanks to the sponsors, his fellow classmates for their unwavering support, and pledged to continue tirelessly seeking further donations to assist the Pediatric Oncology Ward.
