KORLE-BU TEACHING HOSPITAL HANDS OVER SITE TO DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY, UGMS

The Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah in a brief ceremony has handed over the site for the construction of the new office complex for the Department of Psychiatry, University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS), College of Health Sciences. Welcoming the audience, the Head of Department of Psychiatry, Professor Angela Ofori-Atta stated that she was pleased to have finally got the approval of the Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for the construction of a new office complex for the Department of Psychiatry. She indicated that the ceremony was being held to enable the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital to officially hand over the piece of land for work to commence.

She was grateful to the Management of the Hospital for their support towards the project. The Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah indicated that psychiatry services had been neglected for far too long in the country. He further indicated that the current space the Department occupies was too small to accommodate the increasing number of patients and staff, hence the need to expand it. He stated that a lot of issues delayed the approval process. He commended Professor Angela Ofori-Atta for her perseverance and support for the project. He thanked the financiers of the project and the University for their commitment and continuous support to healthcare delivery in the country.

He officially handed over the site to the contractor for work to commence. Present at the ceremony were; Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, Chief Executive Officer, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Professor Angela Ofori Atta, Head, Department of Psychiatry, UGMS, Professor Alfred Yawson, Head, Department of Community Health, UGMS, Professor Mate-Kole, Dr. Sammy Ohene, some staff of the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD), University of Ghana and some staff of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
