COURTESY VISIT BY CHS DELEGATION TO ENTRANCE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY.
A delegation from the College of Health Sciences (CHS), University of Ghana, led by the Provost, Prof. Alfred E. Yawson, paid a courtesy visit to the Entrance University School of Medicine and Dentistry. The visit, undertaken on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, aimed to tour the facility and explore possible areas of collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit was initiated as part of the University of Ghana’s commitment to supporting private institutions in the training of healthcare professionals recognizing the growing demand for quality training facilities for medical and pharmacy students. Prof. Alfred E. Yawson asserted that ‘CHS aims to establish partnerships that will contribute to solving national challenges in healthcare education with private tertiary healthcare institutions’.
The Chancellor of Entrance University, Dr. Samuel Tobin, welcomed the CHS delegation and shared insights into the institution’s journey. He recounted how the establishment evolved from a network of chemical shops into a full-fledged pharmaceutical industry and, ultimately, into a medical and pharmacy school. He emphasized the increasing need for institutions dedicated to training health professionals and stated that the medical school was built with state-of-the-art facilities, including a morgue, to provide comprehensive training for students. The Chancellor expressed his appreciation for the visit from the University of Ghana and the potential for collaboration.

Prof. Yawson expressed the University of Ghana’s delight at the successes achieved by Entrance University. He reiterated UG’s willingness to affiliate with private universities to provide partnership support, including faculty assistance, to enhance the training of healthcare professionals. He highlighted the importance of the visit in assessing the progress of Entrance University and exploring opportunities for further collaboration. A key area of discussion was the potential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. The President of Entrance University, Professor Aaron Lawson, confirmed that the draft MoU was ready and would be submitted to the Provost for review. Prof. Yawson assured that the document would be forwarded to the university’s legal counsel for processing.
Dr Nicholas T. K. Dayie, the International Programme Coordinator at the CHS expressed readiness to assist Entrance University in developing international programmes to attract students from diverse backgrounds. The President of Entrance University requested the College’s support to propose MPhil students in the Basic Sciences to work as faculty members to support their teaching staff at Entrance University.

During the visit, the delegation toured the facilities, which include; 20 dental chairs and 20 phantom heads for student training, a cafeteria, an embalming facility, a dental technology centre, seven electronic whiteboards, a student lounge and library, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) classrooms, medical simulation laboratory, preparation and microbiology laboratory, computer laboratory, biochemistry, histology, and pathology laboratories, among others.
The visit underscored a shared commitment to advancing healthcare education in Ghana through public-private partnership, resource sharing, and faculty support. The discussions marked the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at improving the training and expertise of future healthcare professionals.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with all parties expressing optimism about future collaborations.
