Young Researches Trained In Scientific Writing and Communication

Twenty young researchers mainly from constituent units of the College of Health Sciences have been trained in Scientific Writing and Communication organized under the Building Stronger Universities Initiative (BSU) phase two project. The workshop took place from 6th to 8th May, 2015 at the Medical and Surgical Skills Institute College of Health Sciences; Korle-bu.
The main objective of the workshop was to aid young researchers in the field of science to be able to effectively and efficiently communicate their research findings through publication in high profile journals for peer review, policy making as well as to be cited in similar research areas.

The workshop came in three (3) main packages:
Presentations where facilitators enlightened participants on pertinent areas such as what a scientific paper is, what a primary publication is, hints to a good title; abstract, keywords, materials and methods, how research can be improved in Ghana, building the scientific paper block by block and so many equally important topics.

Time with the Mentor; with this part of the training the participants were allowed some time with their mentors where they submitted a draft manuscript which was thoroughly discussed and the necessary corrections made.

Group Exercises; here participants were given a paper to review and discuss as well as come out with errors and to suggest the best possible way it could have been presented in the paper.

Facilitators at the very successful training include Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, Prof. Richard Adanu, Dr. George Obeng Adjei, Dr. Alfred Yawson, Dr. Eric Sampane-Donkor, Prof. Margaret Lartey, Dr. Amos Laar and Mr. Peter Furu.
