Courtesy Visit by the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana to Entrance University of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences (CHS), University of Ghana, paid a courtesy visit to Entrance University of Health Sciences on 24th April, 2026, to strengthen existing collaboration and receive updates on ongoing infrastructural developments at the Korle-Bu Campus.

The delegation was warmly received by the President of Entrance University of Health Sciences, Professor Aaron Nii Lante Lawson, who welcomed faculty and administrators from the University of Ghana. In his remarks, Prof. Lawson explained that the purpose of the visit was to provide an update on the refurbishment of the UG Medical School Clinic at the Korle-Bu Campus. The facility, when completed, will serve students, staff, and their dependents. He noted that Entrance University, established in 2018, is the first private institution in Ghana to introduce a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) programme and has steadily grown over the past eight years.

Prof. Lawson further disclosed that about a year and a half ago, the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, was engaged to support the development of curricula for Entrance University’s medical and dental programmes. He commended the Provost and faculty of CHS for their invaluable contributions, emphasising that both institutions are collaborators rather than competitors.

In his response, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson, highlighted the longstanding and cordial relationship between CHS and Entrance University. He reiterated the College’s support in curriculum development, faculty exchange and teaching collaborations. He also acknowledged the role of senior faculty, including retired professors from the University of Ghana, who continue to support Entrance University’s academic programmes.

The Provost expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer of Entrance University, Dr. Samuel Tobin, for sponsoring the refurbishment of the Medical School Clinic. He recalled that following an invitation to assess the state of the clinic, the CEO committed to upgrading the facility, an intervention that the College deeply values.

Professor Yawson also conveyed that the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana is pleased with the growing partnership between the two institutions, particularly in areas of administrative support, faculty exchange, and teaching. He indicated that the redevelopment project includes a 400-capacity lecture theatre, faculty office spaces, and a modern clinic, with the expectation that Entrance University will, in the coming years, emerge as a leading private institution for medical and dental education.

Additionally, the Provost emphasized the College’s openness to learning from Entrance University, particularly in adopting innovative approaches commonly seen in private higher education institutions.

Providing further details on the project, Prof. Lawson indicated that the new Medical and Dental School complex will include a fully equipped dental hospital to facilitate clinical training. He asserted that the facility comprises of administrative offices, laboratories, technical spaces, classrooms, and four key departments; Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology, and Microbiology. It also features 20 dental chairs and phantom heads, a dissecting room, and a morgue to support teaching and research. He acknowledged the support received from the University of Ghana, particularly the Departments of Anatomy and Pathology, in providing teaching assistance and learning materials such as pathology pots.

The Provost, CHS noted that documentation capturing the history and progress of the project, including the construction of the lecture facilities, faculty spaces, and clinic, has been compiled into a report, with plans to produce a comprehensive booklet upon completion. Prof. Lawson expressed his admiration for the history document and looked forward to the final publication.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the facilities, followed by a group photograph.
