Profile of Professor Alfred Edwin Yawson, MBChB, DLSHTM, MSc (LSE, London), FWACP, FGCPS
Professor Alfred E. Yawson has over twenty years of medical practice and research experience. He is an alumnus of the University of Ghana Medical School, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he is an Honorary Associate Professor. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (Community Health), and a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians (Public Health). He is the principal investigator for WHO World Health Survey Plus (WHS+) in Ghana, Chairman of the Ghana Non-communicable Diseases, Injury (NCDI) Poverty Commission, and a past Vice- President/ Chairman of the Ghana Chapter of the West African College of Physicians.
Prof. Yawson is a physician, public health practitioner, academic and researcher, and combines these skills to support, develop and strengthen national and international health systems. He has worked as national and international consultant for many international organizations and has contributed to the development of several national policy and strategy documents. He has many international collaborations and research grants that support resource mobilization, training and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana.
He has a decade of leadership roles in the University, is the immediate past Dean of the University of Ghana Medical School and the current Provost, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana.
