The Provost of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), University of Ghana, Prof. Alfred Edwin Yawson, on Friday, June 12, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the College Advisory Board, Mr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, to formally express the College's profound appreciation for his generous donation of GHS100,000 towards the Bright and Needy Students Fund.
The visit followed an earlier courtesy call by CHS delegation on Monday, May 18, 2026, following the celebration of Mr. Ofori Sarpong’s birthday where he pledged an amount to support financially challenged but academically gifted students pursuing medical education at the University of Ghana Medical School.
Accompanying the Provost on the visit were Prof. John Ahenkorah, Chairman of the Bright and Needy Students Fund Committee, and two beneficiaries from the University of Ghana Medical School whose educational journeys have been positively impacted by the initiative.

Prof. Yawson conveyed the appreciation of the College and the University of Ghana for Mr. Ofori Sarpong's unwavering commitment to promoting access to quality medical education and investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals.He noted that the donation would go a long way in easing the financial burden on brilliant but needy students and would help ensure that deserving young people are not denied the opportunity to pursue their dreams because of economic challenges."Your generosity and commitment to empowering young people exemplify the values of service, compassion, and leadership that we seek to instill in our students. The College is deeply grateful for your support and partnership in advancing health professional education in Ghana," Prof. Yawson stated.
Prof. John Ahenkorah, who chairs the committee overseeing the Bright and Needy Students Fund, briefed Mr. Ofori Sarpong on the progress made in operationalizing the scheme. He indicated that the committee had established the necessary mechanisms to ensure transparency and accountability in the administration of the fund and that support would be directed to deserving students based on clearly defined criteria.

The two student beneficiaries also used the opportunity to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Ofori Sarpong for his benevolence and investment in their future. They described the support as life-changing and assured him that they would remain committed to their studies and strive to become competent medical professionals who would contribute meaningfully to national development.
