Programme Overview
The PhD in One Health is a research intensive doctoral programme that equips fellows to address health challenges at the human–animal–environment interface through interdisciplinary training and mentorship across NMIMR’s scientific units.

Course Structure
The programme combines advanced coursework with original research. Students take core and elective courses in areas including:
• Cell and Molecular Biology
• Outbreak Investigation and Control
• Contemporary Trends in One Health
• Entrepreneurship in One Health
• Nutrition and One Health
• Vector Biology and Vector Borne Diseases
• Dynamics of Antimicrobial Resistance
Research Environment
Fellows conduct high quality research using NMIMR’s internationally recognized laboratories and field platforms. Training emphasizes:
• Research methodology and design
• Data analysis and scientific writing
• Critical evaluation of scientific literature
• Research ethics, management, and professionalism
• Communication, teamwork, and leadership
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have:
• A Master’s degree (MPhil/MSc) in a relevant discipline, such as:
– Biological Sciences
– Biomedical Sciences
– Agricultural Sciences
– Environmental Sciences
– Medical Laboratory Sciences
– Veterinary Medicine
– Human Medicine
– Other related science/health fields
• A strong academic background and evidence of research experience
• May be invited for an interview during the selection process
Duration
Full-time, typically 3–4 years, depending on research progress and academic requirements.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, a candidate must:
• Complete required coursework (18–24 credits)
• Present four (4) seminars
• Pass a comprehensive examination
• Conduct original research and submit a doctoral thesis
• Successfully defend the thesis (oral examination)
• Fulfil all School of Graduate Studies regulations
