Launch of Activities for the College of Health Sciences Univesity of Ghana @ 70 Anniversary Celebrations for the Month of September

The College of Health Sciences has launched its activities for the University of Ghana @ 70 celebrations for the month of September, 2018 at the R.S Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana Business School, Legon.

Speaking at the Launch, Professor Eric Sampene-Donkor, Chairman of the College of Health Sciences University of Ghana@70 Sub-Committee, outlined the activities for the celebrations to take place in September, 2018. He said the activities outlined by the College for the celebrations were not only to cater for the staff of the University but also other stakeholders of the University. He said the activities were part of the University’s corporate social responsibility to the communities within which it operates.

He outlined the activities as follows; blood donation exercise, medical and dental outreach which will be held in communities around the University of Ghana and Korle-Bu Campuses, and radio and television talk shows on topical health issues. He said the activities will be climaxed with the 3rdCollege of Health Sciences Biennial Scientific Conference which will take place from the 26th to 28th September, 2018 under the theme: “GENETICS, HYPERTENSION, DIABETES AND HERBAL REMEDIES IN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE” 

Launching the programme of activities, Rev. Professor Patrick Ferdinand Ayeh-Kumi, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, in his address stated that the University of Ghana had had good and bad times. Nevertheless,  the University has been the hope of the nation. He urged the University to take stock of all of its achievements and failures and forge on to higher heights.

He also stated that the activities outlined by the College for the celebrations in September had been specially planned to cater for the basic health needs of not only staff of the College and the University but also members of the communities around the Korle-Bu and Legon Campuses of the University. He entreated all to fully participate in the activities.

The University of Ghana is 70 years old. The University is organising year-long activities to commemorate the anniversary. The year-long celebrations were launched in February this year. The four Colleges of the University were allocated specific months to lead the activities for the celebration. The College of Health Sciences takes its turn to lead the celebrations in the month of September, 2018. The launch coincided with the orientation for fresh level 100 students of the College for the 2018/19 academic year.
